If I go back 15 years the dream system (budget restricted) was Mission speakers with Audilolab cd and int.amp. Then in '99 I heard a friends setup with Musical Fidelity A3 cd and int. amp and Proac Speakers and following some research into cost, new that the future for me was Musical Fidelity. The Musical Fidelity M6i saw service with my Snell EII speakers, as well as with the recently reviewed Legacy Studio HDs and MartinLogan Motion 12s (review forthcoming). My reference integrated amplifier was the NAD C 325BEE (50Wpc into 8 ohms).

At Musical Fidelity we think of the M6si as being a destination product. The M6si offers such excellent performance, facilities and power that unless you are seeking the most exotic high-end sound quality you would never need another amplifier. the rotel 1068 is a great ht preamp but i thought that a good 2channel pre or integrated amp would do wonders for my system. i guess i'm after more grunt to give me a bit moore oomph and tightness in the bass. so therefore i thought a good integrated like the musical fidelity a5 would give me a better sound stage, seperation, detail and more grunt. The review sample of the M2si was well used, and having continuously pushed the sample hard over a number of weeks I have experienced no reliability issues. Based primarily on my experience with the A1, and having fixed a few musical fidelity products over the years, I did have questions as to their reliability. The Musical Fidelity M6 500i is an integrated amplifier and part of a range of M6 components. These are notable because they are at once new and not new. Thanks to the takeover of Musical Fidelity by Pro-Ject last year, the M6 family has re-entered production after initially being discontinued by Musical Fidelity.
The Musical Fidelity M6 SDAC is a very high-quality 32/768kHz upsampling/reclocking DAC. It has 7 inputs: 3 x Coax, 3 x Optical and 1 x USB. It will accept all data rates up to 32bit 768kHz and DSD 64/128. The Musical Fidelity MF100 use quite a lot of tension, and as a result they squash your ears. Comfort is a tricky thing to achieve in an on-ear headphone and the MF100 have not aced it.
